The African American Alliance Fund has given more than $550,000 to 43 organizations in California's Orange County since it was launched three years ago, and its latest round of grants has brought that total up to $163,500, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The money is intended to "raise awareness about systemic racism and support programs that advance African American communities throughout the southern California region," according to a press release from the Orange County Community Foundation, which administers the fund.

The grants were awarded to 20 organizations, including 100 Black Men of Orange County and the National College Resources Foundation.

"We have served over 35,000 students, including students in Orange County and surrounding areas with our STEAM and Black College Expo programs," says the founder of the National College Resources Foundation.

"This funding will help us spark continued learning to increase diversity in STEAM fields."
